The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has entered into a strategic partnership with leading industry stakeholders to establish the Rosemary Atakora Memorial Scholarship Scheme, a landmark initiative aimed at supporting bright but financially disadvantaged undergraduate students. Under the auspices of the Rosemary Atakora Foundation, the Deputy Managing Director of BOST Energies, Ms. Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, together with partners Headspace Limited and AOW Energy, formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UENR on 26th January 2026. The agreement commits the partners to providing full undergraduate scholarships to 15 students, from Level 200 through to completion of their studies, covering tuition and accommodation.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the partners; represented by Ms. Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, Mr. Nana Obeng Yeboah, Chief Executive Officer of Headspace Limited, and Ms. Afua Boakye, AOW Energy Ghana Office Manager, who represented the Chief Executive Officer of AOW Energy, Mr. Paul Sinclair expressed their excitement and deep sense of honour at the opportunity to support talented but needy students of the University.

“This scholarship is not only about financial assistance,” the partners noted, “it is about investing in human potential and ensuring that deserving students are empowered to complete their education and contribute meaningfully to national development.”

Explaining what motivated her to champion the scholarship scheme, Ms. Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie noted that the initiative is deeply rooted in the life and values of her late mother, Rosemary Atakora, a dedicated career teacher, educationist, and philanthropist who was fondly remembered for supporting numerous children through school. Her mother firmly believed that education is the great equaliser and consistently extended help to ensure that financial hardship did not deprive young people of the opportunity to learn and progress. Inspired by this enduring legacy, Ms. Bondzie said she is committed to sustaining her mother’s vision by empowering the next generation through education. Reflecting on her own journey from humble beginnings in Asante Mampong to pursuing her first degree at GIMPA, she observed that the lack of financial support can abruptly cut short the education and aspirations of many brilliant young people, particularly young women. The Rosemary Atakora Memorial Scholarship Scheme, she added, is therefore both a tribute to her mother’s life and a personal commitment to bridging opportunity gaps for deserving students.

The University of Energy and Natural Resources was represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, who expressed his excitement and gratitude to the donatingpartners for their kind gesture. He noted that this scholarship would change the lives of the student beneficiaries. He welcomed the partnership and assured stakeholders that the University would administer the scholarship with transparency and accountability to ensure maximum benefit to the selected beneficiaries. Present at the signing of the MoU were Dr. Yaw Akyampon Boakye-Ansah on behalf of the University, and Mr. Emmanuel Kpogo, representing the partners. Dr. Boakye-Ansah and Mr. Kpogo will also serve as co-administrators and primary points of contact for the implementation and coordination of the Rosemary Atakora Memorial Scholarship Scheme.

Beyond covering tuition and accommodation, the scholarship scheme will adopt a holistic approach to student development by providing mentorship, career guidance, and professional exposure. As part of this commitment, AOW Energy has pledged to include selected beneficiaries; particularly students in petroleum, geoscience, and energy-related disciplines in the upcoming AOW 26 Conference, scheduled for September in Accra. The students will have the opportunity to participate in conference activities, engage with industry leaders, and serve on selected panels. The Rosemary Atakora Memorial Scholarship Scheme targets students in Petroleum Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Geoinformation Science, Information Technology, and Nursing, with a strong emphasis on female participation, reflecting the partners’ commitment to gender inclusion and capacity building in critical sectors.

This initiative stands as a strong example of effective collaboration between academia and industry, demonstrating how strategic partnerships can be leveraged to transform lives, strengthen human capital, and contribute to Ghana’s long-term development agenda.
