The African Petroleum Regulators Forum Charter

Africa Oil Week (AOW) is proud to announce its partnership with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to host the Annual African Regulatory Forum (AFRIPERF) within AOW 2025 in Accra, Ghana. This landmark event will bring together key regulatory bodies, government representatives, and industry leaders to advance dialogue, collaboration, and policy alignment across the African petroleum sector.
A major highlight of AFRIPERF at AOW 2025 will be the official signing of The African Petroleum Regulators Forum Charter. This Charter will define the commitment and mandate of the Founding Members of the African Petroleum Regulators Forum (the ‘Forum’), reinforcing their shared responsibility to foster the sustainable growth and development of the African petroleum industry.

The Commitment to Africa’s Petroleum Future

The Charter underscores the dedication of African regulators to shaping a petroleum industry that is transparent, efficient, and beneficial to all stakeholders. It reflects a unified vision for harnessing Africa’s petroleum resources in a way that maximizes economic value while ensuring environmental and social responsibility.

At the core of this partnership is a commitment to:

  • Harmonizing petroleum regulations and standards across African nations to create a more competitive and investor-friendly environment.
  • Enhancing regulatory capacity through training and knowledge-sharing, ensuring that Africa’s regulatory frameworks evolve to meet the needs of a dynamic energy landscape.
  • Promoting direct engagement between regulators, industry stakeholders, and international organizations to foster collaboration and align on global best practices.

Shaping the Future of African Petroleum Regulation

We believe that through collective action and adherence to global best practices in resource management, the petroleum industry can serve as a cornerstone for Africa’s economic transformation. The collaboration of regulators, governments, industry leaders, civil societies, host communities, and international partners will drive innovation, foster investment, and create an inclusive and resilient energy sector that benefits all Africans.

By signing this Charter, the Founding Members of the African Petroleum Regulators Forum affirm their commitment to ensuring that Africa’s petroleum industry plays a pivotal role in the continent’s sustainable development, energy security, and long-term prosperity.

The hosting of AFRIPERF at AOW 2025 marks a significant milestone in the journey toward stronger, more harmonized regulatory frameworks across Africa. The Forum will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, policy discussions, and collaborative decision-making that will strengthen Africa’s position as a global energy powerhouse.
