BW Energy Hits Key Milestone as Dussafu Licence Reaches 40kb/d Capacity

In a recent article it was noted that BW Energy (BWE NO) has reached a major milestone in its operations offshore Gabon with the Dussafu licence achieving 40,000 barrels of oil per day (kb/d) production capacity. This accomplishment underscores the company’s resilience and focus on maximizing value across its portfolio.

BW Energy reiterated its full-year production guidance of 27.3–30 kb/d, driven by the Dussafu licence’s improved performance. The FPSO Adolo reaching its 40kb/d capacity ahead of the end-of-year target highlights the success of its operational recovery efforts, including replacing downhole ESPs (electric submersible pumps).

Global Operations Driving Growth

BW Energy’s portfolio demonstrates a strategic balance between near-term production gains and long-term growth opportunities:

Gabon (Dussafu Licence): The FPSO Adolo’s capacity is expected to expand further, with joint venture partner Panoro Energy indicating the potential for a ~10% increase. Three additional wells are scheduled to come online, further enhancing production in 2025.

Brazil (Golfinho and Maromba Fields): Optimizing production from the Golfinho field remains a challenge, with workovers and FPSO upgrades underway to stabilize output.

The Maromba development (50kb/d target) is advancing toward a final investment decision (FID) in early 2025, supported by upgrades to the Maromba FPSO.

Namibia (Kharas Prospect): BW Energy has sanctioned an appraisal well targeting the Kharas exploration prospect offshore Namibia. With long-lead items secured and rig bids in place, drilling is expected in the second half of 2025.

Market Reaction and Outlook

BW Energy’s progress on the Dussafu licence and its broader portfolio exemplifies the transformative potential of focused investment and innovation in Africa’s upstream sector. This aligns well with the position of AOWEnergy to build confidence in the region and also pave the way for increased investment, M&A activity, and exploration and production (E&P) growth.

We look forward to seeing BW Energy’s continued success and that of all companies across the continent with a drive and ambition to accelerate the development of Africa’s energy resources.
