ReconAfrica Advances Namibia Exploration with Kavango Rift Drilling Success

Reconnaissance Energy Africa (ReconAfrica) has reached a major milestone in its exploration efforts in Namibia’s Kavango Rift Basin, completing drilling operations at the Naingopo exploration well. This marks a pivotal step in unlocking the energy potential of one of Africa’s most promising hydrocarbon opportunities.

The Naingopo well, situated on the PEL73 licence (70% working interest) in the Damara Fold Belt, is targeting prospective resources of 181 million barrels of oil or 937 billion cubic feet of natural gas. As ReconAfrica commences a thorough evaluation program, including wireline logging, MDT sampling, coring, and a vertical seismic profile, the company expects to announce preliminary results in the coming weeks.

Strategic Exploration Targets

The Naingopo well is designed to assess two key reservoir targets. Firstly the Mulden Clastic Reservoir, a shallower structure with high oil potential and the second being the Otavi Carbonate Reservoir, a deeper target believed to hold significant hydrocarbon prospects.

Following Naingopo, ReconAfrica will move its rig to drill the larger Kumbundu (P) prospect, another promising structure in the Kavango Rift Basin, before the year ends.

Funding Secured Through Strategic Partnership

ReconAfrica’s partnership with BW Energy has strengthened its position, providing funding for its ambitious exploration plans:

A two-well drilling program in the Damara Fold Belt.

A 3D seismic campaign planned for the second half of 2025 to refine the exploration pipeline.

Contingent cash payments tied to exploration success, potentially funding a broader 18-month multi-well campaign.
